Inspired by 80's cartoons, superheroes and tabloids and armed with an arsenal of ideas, Miss Go Disco was recently told by Miss Tuesday Laveau that she 'owned the stage' after performing her new Disco Boudoir act at Laveau's Be More Burlesque in Bristol.Website: http://www.myspace.com/geisha_go_disco
:: Geno Washington & His Ram Jam Band
Currently Geno’s splendid cameo acting role in a well recieved independent film called ‘A Bit of Tom Jones’ can be seen doing the rounds in cinemas.
Anti knife-crime Single after his national winter tour with Jimmy James and P P Arnold, Geno released a truly inspirational single. Working with Childline and Victim Support Geno has penned an anti-gun and anti-knife crime song called ‘I’m Doin’ 99 Years’. It is based on his experiences as a boy growing up in Indiana with bootlegging parents (both of whom served jail sentences for gun related incidences – where self defence was proven but nevertheless, jail was still the outcome). Some extremely cool mixes were donated and as you can imagine Geno had plenty to say on the subject. The single certainly did it’s bit to raise awareness and to point people towards the charities which do such great work in this area.
Geno Washington and The Ram Jam Band’s history proves Geno to be something of an engma too. Without ever having had a number one single, Geno had two of the biggest selling U.K. albums of the sixties. Amazingly both of these were live albums. ‘Hand Clappin’ Foot Stompin’ Funky Butt Live’, for example, was in the U.K. album charts for 48 out of 52 weeks in 1966. Incredibly, only ‘The Sound of Music’ and ‘Bridge Over Troubled Water’ sold more copies in the UK that year…A fact that is a clear testament to Geno’s awesome ability as a live performer.
In 1980 ‘Oh Geno!’ was a Number 1 hit in the UK for Dexy’s Midnight Runners. Vocalist Kevin Roland, who based the song on Geno’s gigs, spoke in many interviews of our cult 60’s soul man who ravaged club-land to the chants of “Geno! Geno! Geno! “
More Background Geno is as vital as ever when it comes to rocking the house. The ultimate showman and his super-tight band will illuminate any stage from the moment he steps upon it. Still packing them in and rocking them in the isles. As well as his wonderful charity single release (see above) he is still recording today and released 3 new albums on Kookooland Records and has enjoyed two major re-releases of his sixties catalogues through Universal Entertainment.
Press tributes.
