:: Kairos 4tet
kairos Saxophonist Adam Waldmann, pianist Rob Barron, bassist Oli Hayhurst and drummer Jon Scott are the Kairos 4tet, a back to basics, saxophone-led jazz group, playing original Waldmann compositions that carry the authority of jazz standards. Waldmann plays lots of soprano with a resonant and very attractive tone that, along with his coherent ideas, give it plenty of staying power. Happily, Waldmannn's compositions provide enough substance to fuel these four fine musicians into a creative rapport that makes you think you're listening to one of the great jazz quartets.

:: Karen Street Quartet
Karen Street FROM STRICTLY COME DANCING TO STRICTLY JAZZ Hot from her stint as accordionist to the stars on the Strictly Come Dancing Live tour, Karen Street will be hitting the road again in March, this time to tell ‘Another Story’ when she will play songs from her CD of the same name. As well as reflecting Karen’s musical influences, the featured selection of jazz standards, original tunes – and a pop song – ably demonstrate the diverse nature of this versatile instrument. The Karen Street Quartet sees Karen’s musical partnership with guitarist Fred T Baker, first unveiled in Karen’s debut CD ‘Finally a beginning’ back in 2001, refreshed by the addition of award winning jazz singer Sara Colman, along with the talented bassist Andy Hamill. “For me performing Another Story is an opportunity to give the audience an insight into the musical influences which have got me to this point in my musical career. It is also a chance for me to demonstrate what the accordion can do; perhaps challenging a few preconceived ideas of the instrument in the process,” said Karen Street. “I am delighted to be joined by Fred, Sara and Andy, three musicians I greatly respect and have a great deal of fun with – something else I am sure we will share with all our audiences. Playing as a quartet at small venues is always enjoyable as you are able to connect with people in a way that can be more difficult when you play in larger ensembles or at bigger venues.” Karen’s skill at playing the accordionist, saxophonist and composer ensures she is in demand for a range of projects. She has played with performers and ensembles from Ute Lemper and Willard White; Grace Jones and Martha Wainwright to the Mike Westbrook Orchestra and BBC Philharmonic. This colourful and varied musical experience was a key influence in the development of ‘Another Story’. She has undertaken two tours with Strictly Come Dancing Live and is currently touring with the 2010 tour. Early in her career her involvement with the Fairer Sax all-female saxophone quartet saw her grace the cover of the Sunday Times Magazine and star in a BBC TV special. Fred T Baker has had a glittering and musically varied career playing with John Etheridge, Ric Sanders, Nigel Kennedy, John Dankworth and Courtney Pine. Sara Colman was one of the elite group of artists selected for the Jerwood series of Rising Star concerts at the Cheltenham Festival and received one of the inaugural Birmingham Jazz Awards in 2006. Andy Hamill has played double bass and bass guitar with many artists from jazz to pop, including: Nitin Sawhney, Beth Rowley, Tracey Thorn, Kylie Minogue and Harry Hill.
