Fast Woman
Fast Woman
Performed by Sandra Hunt Written by Stewart Howson     Directed by Fine Time Fontayne Daredevil Helle Nice was a fast woman in every sense: in life, in love and in motor-racing.  Roaring through the 1920’s she danced her way to notoriety at the Casino de Paris, posed nude for Parisian photographers and risked her life many times in adventures as diverse as skiing, high wire acts, mountaineering and speed record attempts.  Her skill and courage brought her success; her brazen media-savvy brought her enemies – one in particular.  In him she met her match.  Hunt and Laurence presents the extraordinary life of Helle Nice, artists’ model, dancer and champion racing driver.  She went from the dreariness of peasant France to the demi-monde of 20’s Paris to the death defying racing circuits of Europe and America.  She was sultry, sexy, dancing half naked; she was gritty, driven, taking the chequered flag ahead of the pack. A media darling, a practiced self-publicist, her world crashed with an accusation of ‘Nazi collaborator’.  A jealous male or a kernel of truth?

Featuring:
Fast Woman (performed By Sandra Hunt) - Sandra Hunt, like Helle Nice, began her career as a dancer performing in cabaret and nightclubs as well as theatres. Sandra says “I have also modelled for my local art group but appeared nude only in the privacy of my own bathroom! Her television work includes roles in ‘Cold Feet’, ‘The Street’, ‘Coronation Street’, ‘Emmerdale’, ‘Heartbeat’, ‘Where The Heart Is’ and ‘Doctors’. And highlights in a long theatrical career are her remarkable performance as Fanny Cradock in her solo show ‘Fanny Cradock - the Life and Loves of a Kitchen Devil’ written by Julia Darling, Mary Granard in the hilarious ‘Lady Molly of Scotland Yard’ and half of the ladies in the moving and delicately funny ‘The Ladies of Cranford’ both adapted by and performed with Rachel Laurence. http://web.me.com/robertslaurence/HuntLaurence/Welcome.html

Rachel Harrington and Rod Clements

Doors Open: 7.30pm   Event Begins: 8pm   Event Ends: 11pm

Rachel Harrington
Rachel Harrington
Seattle country-soul sensation Rachel Harrington is the rising star of Americana, who is keeping the ancient art of the musical storyteller alive. The source of her inspiration comes from her early life in a strict Pentecostal family in Oregon & her musical influences, including gospel music & her father’s secret soul record collection, which she would listen to when the family were out at church. Rachel will be accompanied by the inimitable Rod Clements, solo singer-songwriter and master slide guitarist and Bert Jansch collaborator and producer, dobro guru and Lindisfarne founder member whose illustrious credentials read like a who’s who of the folk-roots world.

Featuring:
Rachel Harrington - Rachel Harrington comes from a Pentecostal upbringing in the state of Oregon; country, to be sure, but listening to her you'd think it was Appalachia in 1934, so convincing is her traditional song writing and her plaintive singing. This is not an affectation, it shows, as in Cormac McCarthy's novels, how close the past is to the present out in the country. In Rachel's songs the story comes first, but the music isn't far behind with her lovely voice and the stellar cast of musicians that accompany her on her just released second album, City of Refuge
